Lyla Kissoon passes away at 95
Lyla Kissoon, the matriarch of the Kissoon’s furniture business passed away today at the age of 95.
For decades she had been the major figure behind the business and other enterprises of the family.
One of her grandchildren, Dax Kissoon issued the following tribute:
Even at the Golden age of 95 this is still very much a shock right now, as I thought such a giant of a woman could never leave us– but in all honesty– she will never ever truly leave. She lives on in every person’s life she has touched, especially mine!
My grandmother was the most amazing person I’ve ever met in my life; even more so than my own father, because I know she is what made him, as with myself, what we are. She is the Matriarch who fostered and carried on a legacy that we must never forget or withhold reverence.
I was given the opportunity to be upclose to greatness for a long time. She spoke greatness into me. She believed in me when no one else did. She listened to me and I listened to her without any second guessing or doubt, as i pretty much do with anyone. My ego was set aside with her, once Grandma says so, it’s so. Her business fundamentals were sound and I always respected that. A holler or harsh word from Grandma cut deep, thats my ultimate authority. I was no angel, but she knew this and loved me unconditionally nonetheless.
There will be lots of words spoken of my grandmother- as Moms the businesswoman, a mother, wife, her charity- but few will compare to my view of her as my grandma!
I could go on forever as I’m sure I will.
I type through tears, my heart is broken. It’s not easy losing the person who made you who you are and who you will ever want to be.
My only consolation is she’s with her boys and my grandpa again.
We lost a legend today. May she find peace and may the Good Lord take care of her as she did for so many here on earth.
Rest Peacefully Grandma. Love you and thank you for everything you helped me become.
