Dead: Driver, Davin Daniels (top) and Pedestrian, mark George (bottom)

It was a chaotic scene on the Belle Vue public road, West Coast Berbice, this morning after the driver of a speeding motorcar crashed into a ‘greens stand’ and a bus shed before hitting a utility pole, killing himself and a pedestrian in the process.

The dead pedestrian has been identified as Mark George, a 49-year-old from Lot 2 Belle Vue, WCB, and the driver as Davin Daniels, a 29-year-old from Onderneeming Village, WCB.

According to police reports, the accident occurred at about 05:40hrs today (Sunday, June 22, 2025) on Belle Vue public road.

The aftermath of this morning’s accident

At the time, Daniels was driving motorcar #PAD 9544, heading East along the northern side of Belle Vue public road at a fast rate, when he lost control of the vehicle. The driver swerved to the southern side of the road and collided with a ‘greens (vegetable) stand’.

However, the car continued further East and collided with a bus shed, where the pedestrian was sitting on a wooden seat, before hitting a utility pole on the southern side of the road, where the vehicle eventually came to a halt.

As a result of the collision, the light pole broke and fell, in the process crushing a wash bay shed.

The pedestrian was pinned under the bus shed while the driver was pinned in his vehicle.

The driver and pedestrian received injuries to their heads and bodies, and were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty, who pronounced them dead on arrival.

The bodies are presently lying at Bailey’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
