Corentyne biker dies in crash, pillion riders hurt
Police are investigating a fatal incident which occurred yesterday at about 15:55 hours on the #69 Village public road in Corentyne, Berbice.
The incident involved motorcycle #CN 7562, driven by Eric Kissoon, a 23-year-old (now deceased) of #72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, with two pillion riders — a 13-year-old male student and a 28-year-old male — both of whom are currently receiving medical attention.
The police say that investigations revealed that the motorcycle (CN 7562) was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane on the #68 Village public road, allegedly at a fast rate.
The motorcyclist was unlicensed and neither him nor the pillion riders was wearing safety helmets. The motorcyclist lost control while negotiating a right bend and collided with a bridge rail located on the eastern side of the road. This resulted in the motorcyclist and pillion riders suffering injuries on their bodies.
They were all picked up (motorcyclist in an unconscious state, and the pillion riders in semi conscious state) and conveyed to the #75 Regional Hospital where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty.
The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention. His body is presently lying at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The pillion riders are presently hospitalised and their conditions are regarded as serious.
