Azruddin Mohamed vows to fight US indictment
-describes latest GRA $191b claim as political attack
Azruddin Mohamed, leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, has declared his intent to “vigorously” defend himself against 11 counts handed down on Friday by a Grand Jury in the United States of America.
Mohamed also confirmed that the Guyana Revenue Authority on October 2nd, 2025 delivered a demand letter for $191,171,975,676 due for understatement of taxes (gold sales). Meanwhile, Attorney General (AG) Anil Nandlall SC has deferred comment on the issue of the indictments and Clerk of the National Assembly Sherlock Isaacs confirmed that Mohamed will remain an MP unless convicted of a crime. When asked for a comment by SN on the indictments, Nandlall responded briefly, “I will speak on it at a later time.”
In an invited comment to SN, Mohamed describ-ed the indictments as a political attack. He also revealed that he is moving to retain a team of lawyers in the USA and has confirmed a separate, tax claim against him by the Guyana Revenue Autho-rity.
“I’m going to defend myself vigorously to ensure that I’m not charged for anything because it’s just an allegation. It’s just an allegation, but I know that the lobbyists, the PPP lobbyists, they’re working overtime right now,” Mohamed stated.
