US taxpayers not subsidising Exxon’s operations here
-Routledge
American taxpayers are not subsidising ExxonMobil’s operations here as the US oil major received no tax credits for 2023 and 2024 from Guyana and before that never made a profit, EMGL Country President Alistair Routledge says.
He said that US senators who have raised this question may have been misled by Non-Government Organisation – Oil and Gas Governance Network (OGGN).
“What I can say about that is, it would appear that OGGN perhaps misled the senators somewhat, ExxonMobil Corporation, in its 2023 and 2024 tax filings there were no Guyanese tax credits that were included in any, in either, of those filings. And you’ll recall that prior to 2023 we were not making profits here in Guyana. So there were no tax credits from that. So from this point, up until this point, there have been no Guyana tax credits that have been used by Exxon,” Routledge said when asked by Stabroek News if ExxonMobil would reply to the senators’ request for information on the issue.
