Drug fight in Caribbean must conform with international law, Caricom says
In view of the US military buildup in the Southern Caribbean and its blowing up of suspected narco boats, Caricom yesterday said that the fight against drug trafficking must be within the realm of international law, though Trinidad and Tobago has reserved its position on this.
Stabroek News was told by a source that the Heads of Government met virtually for their Intercessional Meeting on Thursday afternoon and discussions continued thereafter.
According to the statement that was subsequently issued, the Heads “… reaffirmed the principle of maintaining the Caribbean region as a zone of peace and the importance of dialogue and engagement towards the peaceful resolution of disputes and conflict. Caricom remains willing to assist towards that objective.”
