Essequibo book spot in final after commanding win against GCB Select XI – INews Guyana

The Essequibo team

Essequibo secured their place in the finals of the Queensway Security Service National Super 50 tournament following a commanding 10-wicket victory over GCB Select XI at the Lusignan Community Center, East Coast Demerara on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Essequibo’s pace spearhead Ronsford Beaton struck early, removing both Romeo Deonarain and Tagenarine Chanderpaul within the first five overs.

The early breakthroughs set the tone for the innings as the Essequibo spinners took control, dismantling the middle and lower order with clinical precision.

Ronaldo Jeffrey offered brief resistance, top-scoring with 22 off 41 balls (2 fours), but wickets continued to tumble.

The spin trio of Anthony Adams (4-27), Ricardo Adams (2-16), and Myhiem Khan (1-8) combined brilliantly to restrict GCB Select XI to just 69 all out in 30.3 overs.

In reply, Essequibo made light work of the modest target. Kevon Boodie led the charge with a blistering 54 off 33 balls, smashing 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Kanhaiya Ramkarran contributed 14 not out. The pair guided Essequibo to victory in just 7.2 overs, finishing on 70 without loss.

With the emphatic win, Essequibo booked their spot in the tournament final. The last match of the round-robin phase will be contested today at the No. 69 Ground between defending champions Demerara and Berbice.
