Former Gold Board Chair says Mohameds were not on smuggling radar
-says he welcomes probe of his tenure
Former Guyana Gold Board (GGB) Chairman GHK Lall yesterday said that Azruddin Mohamed and his father Nazar Mohamed were never on the gold smuggling radar and said he would welcome a full-fledged, international investigation of the period that he was in charge.
At a press conference at the Catholic Life Centre, Lall characterized accusations against himself as a “political persecution” and questioned why his name, and not those of other government officials, was prominently featured in public discourse.
Responding to a question from Stabroek News about his knowledge of gold smuggling during his 2017-2019 tenure, Lall said that the GGB “heard about smuggling from different sources… in the yard… from operations conducted by the government.”
