Child dies, others injured in explosion at Georgetown gas station – INews Guyana

A child was killed, and at least two others were injured during a powerful explosion at the Mobil Gas Station located at the corners of Regent and King Streets, Georgetown.

The explosion happened at around 19:30h, and the victims were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital shortly after and are receiving treatment.

Based on information reaching this publication, the child was among several persons in a motorcar parked near the cooking gas depot at the city gas station when the explosion occurred.

It is unclear what sparked the blast that was heard across central Georgetown; however, the gas cylinder bottles exploded.

Emergency responders, including the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force, are on the scene.

Additionally, sections of the city gas station, including its convenience store, as well as several nearby buildings, were also damaged.
