New market tarmac for 40+ vendors operating along Railway Embankment in Buxton – Edghill – INews Guyana

Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill this morning met with vendors who ply their trade along the Railway Embankment in Buxton, that are to be relocated to facilitate the completion of the ongoing roadworks.

The early morning meeting was a follow-up to earlier discussions with the vendors regarding their relocation and the government’s objective of creating safe roadways and establishing designated vending areas so persons can still conduct their economic activities to maintain their livelihoods.

As part of the engagement, Minister Edghill, technical staff from the ministry and the 42 vendors visited the options that are available for the relocation.

The new location will see the construction of a market tarmac within the vicinity of the Buxton-Foulis Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).

A proposed design for stalls will be shared with the vendors. The new tarmac will also be outfitted with amenities including washroom facilities and proper lighting.

The works are anticipated to be completed within three weeks. In the interim, the vendors will be allowed to ply their trade in their current spots until the completion of the new area.

Meanwhile, Minister Edghill also met with residents who are within the alignment of ongoing road widening works and are encroaching on the roadways with their fences. He notified them of the need for the commencement of their removal in the new week for the continuation of the project.
