City presents $3.297b budget – Stabroek News

-rates adjustments to be sought for some properties

The Mayor & City Council (M&CC) yesterday presented a $3.297 billion budget for 2024, significantly up over last year and with a deficit in financing.

The budget, themed, “Building a green, resi-lient, safe, and sustainable city,” was presented by Chairman of the Finance Committee, Lelon Saul, and passed by the 30-member council after weeks of criticism over its delay. 

Funding for the budget will come primarily from rates and taxes, which are expected to total over $2.2 billion. Additional revenue sources include $329 million from markets, $321.9 million from container fees, and other fees amounting to $358.8 million. A $30 million subvention from the central government is also included.
