Two dead, one injured in chopping incident in West Canje

A paternity argument at Plantation Caracas, West Canje, left two persons dead  yesterday morning and another injured.

Dead are Leon Fordyce, a 45-year-old labourer, and Shawn Timothy La Fleur, 35. Hospitalized  at the New Amsterdam Hospital is Anganisha Newyear, called ‘Angie’, a 40-year-old mother of eight.

Residents of the community claim that several calls for police intervention proved futile, and it was after an hour that ranks from Central Police Station arrived. When they arrived,  Newyear was bleeding profusely from a wound to the left side of her abdomen. She had sought refuge in a neighbour’s yard. LaFleur was found bleeding from a wound to his neck.  Fordyce was found lifeless. A resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said he was awakened just after midnight after hearing shouts for help.
