Azruddin Mohamed declares Presidential bid: ‘We must reject tribal voting’
Businessman and philanthropist Azruddin Mohamed has officially declared his candidacy for the presidency in the General and Regional Elections set for September 1, 2025. In a five-minute video released on his Facebook page last night, Mohamed positioned himself as a unifying candidate with a people-first vision for Guyana.
Framing his decision as a call to service rather than ambition, Mohamed said, “Today I stand ready to raise my hand, put my shoulder to the task, and dedicate my mind and heart to building a world-class Guyana where every citizen is treated equally.” He said Guyanese deserve a government that leads through integrity, not political loyalty.
In his message, Mohamed reflected on everyday struggles many Guyanese face, especially the rising cost of living and deepening economic inequality. He contrasted these hardships with what he described as government extravagance, saying that while foreign entertainers are flown in for public spectacles, many citizens are forced to scale back their Independence traditions.
