US Sponsor held in slaying of Trinidad woman
(Trinidad Express) The New York Police Department (NYPD) has held a suspect in the gruesome murder of Trinidadian mother Salisha Ali.
According to a report by the Associates Times, investigators believe that Ali’s murder is linked to her immigration status.
It is believed that Ali, of Brazil Village, Talparo, was allegedly involved in an immigration-related marriage in the US.
NYPD police have detained a suspect.
Information received points to a domestic conflict, after Ali left the sponsor for someone else, it is being reported.
“This development acts as a solid base for further investigations with detectives focusing on a potential domestic conflict motive in the case which directs toward verifiable public records. The case is expected to move further into deeper investigation with Marriage records and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) documents aiding in locating and confirming the identity of the sponsor offering a direct pathway for investigators to locate the person of interest,” the Associates Times report said.
In September, a severed torso, believed to be that of Ali’s, was found in a park near the JFK Airport in New York.
A month earlier, she was reported missing by relatives in Trinidad, who said they were unable to contact her.
The remains were linked to Ali, after the NYPD matched the description to her missing report.
On Saturday, relatives told the Express that Ali, a mother of three girls between the ages of six and 14, frequently travels to the US and stays for months at a time.
They have described the incident as horrific and as something they only thought happened in movies.
