Budget 2026 will make provision for cash grant of $100,000 to persons 18 and over – President

President Irfaan Ali tonight announced that a cash grant of $100,000 for each person 18 years and over will be provided for in the 2026 budget to be presented early in the new year.

He was speaking at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre where he was presenting the  government’s policy agenda for economic and social transformation for the next five years.

The issue of the cash grant has attracted major interest because of what had been perceived as a promise during the election campaign.

A cash grant of $100,000 was also paid to each person 18 years and over in 2024/2025.

He also announced that the net property tax will be abolished and the income tax threshold will be progressively increased over the next five years.
