Bandit fatally shot during attempted robbery at Mandela Avenue – INews Guyana

Police are investigating an alleged Attempt to Commit a Felony, to wit Robbery Under Arms and a fatal shooting which occurred on Wednesday June 10, 2026 about 20:40hrs at a supermarket on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three identifiable males entered the supermarket, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The suspects allegedly held two unarmed security guards at gunpoint and ordered them to lie on the ground.
During the incident, a police rank who was on mobile patrol observed what was taking place, stopped and approached the suspects.
The armed suspect allegedly discharged a round in the direction of the police rank, who returned fire with his service pistol.
The suspects then ran out of the supermarket in different directions. The armed suspect subsequently fell into a nearby drain on Mandela Avenue.
A .38 revolver with three live rounds and several spent shells were recovered.
The suspect was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
Investigations are ongoing.
