VP Jagdeo takes public day outreach to Region Three tomorrow

Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo will bring his Public Day outreach to Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) tomorrow, the latest stop in a series that has already moved through Regions Two, Four, Five and Six.

The session is set for 10:00 am at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora, where residents will be able to meet the Vice President and ministers under one roof. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early.

The public day aims to provide residents with direct contact with government officials.

Rather than going office to office, residents bring their concerns to a single sitting and put them to the Vice President and agency officials in person.

Matters raised are taken down for follow-up, with some addressed on the spot and others referred to the relevant ministry or department.

Across the regions visited so far, residents have used the sessions to raise a mix of personal and community issues, from requests for house lots and land, to employment, agricultural support, drainage and road works, and assistance for small businesses.

Region Three residents are expected to bring a similar range of concerns when the outreach reaches them tomorrow.

The visit continues a programme that has seen the Vice President travel from region to region to hear directly from citizens and shorten the distance between communities and the agencies meant to serve them.

With Region Three now on the schedule, attention turns to the turnout and the issues that residents on the islands and along the West Demerara corridor will bring forward.
