Driver dies in WCB accident – INews Guyana

Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at about 11:00 hrs on the No. 22 Public Road, West Coast Berbice, involving motorcars PJJ 94 and PAP 2877.

Preliminary investigations revealed that motorcar PJJ 94, driven by 42-year-old Carlton Pluck (deceased) of No. 8 Village, West Coast Berbice, was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of the public road at an alleged fast rate of speed. While negotiating a right bend, the driver reportedly attempted to overtake a line of traffic and collided head-on with motorcar PAP 2877, which was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of the road.

Motorcar PAP 2877 was being driven by 33-year-old Andre Stephen of Bermine Scheme, New Amsterdam, Berbice. Also in the vehicle were 37-year-old Sean Cobagan of Glasgow Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, Berbice, and 33-year-old Delon Codogan, also of New Amsterdam, Berbice.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles were extensively damaged, and the drivers and occupants of motorcar PAP 2877 received injuries about their bodies.

Carlton Pluck was taken to the Bath Regional Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he remained unconscious and was being treated for severe head injuries. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at about 16:30 hrs.

Andre Stephen was taken to the Bath Regional Hospital by public-spirited citizens, where he was treated and discharged. Sean Cobagan was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further medical attention, while Delon Codogan, who sustained multiple injuries, remained under observation. Their conditions are regarded as stable.

A breathalyzer test conducted on Andre Stephen, the driver of motorcar PAP 2877, recorded a reading of 17 micrograms.

The body of the deceased is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
