Karasabai homes destroyed by strong winds
Around 11 homes were destroyed by high winds yesterday in the South Pakaraimas village of Karasabai.
According to the Facebook page, KARASABAI Home of the Sun Parakeets, the Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo Regional Democratic Council has dispatched a team to assess the extent of the damage and determine the necessary support for affected residents. Most of the homes destroyed are those accommodating students from far-flung villages attending Karasabai Secondary School, the Facebook page said.
It said that Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai and a team from the Civil Defence Commission are expected to travel to Karasabai to assess the situation there.
