Justice for Adrianna protests held at Melanie, Buxton, Den Amstel and Bartica
Citizens protested yesterday at Melanie Damishana and Buxton, East Coast Demerara as well as a Den Amstel on the West Demerara and Bartica in Region Seven, over the tragic death of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge, with calls for justice and transparency.
People gathered on the public road at Melanie, where they protested for about two hours while others marched with a flag of Guyana to Buxton gas station. Parents took along their children who held placards in support of Younge’s family. One child used a portable loudspeaker to lead the protestors at Melanie in a series of chants.
Protestors opined that too often people are faced with injustice despite the nature of the situation. Further, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and by extension the former commander of Regional Police Division #3 Khalid Mandal, was criticized for credibility in the matter. They pointed to the lack of transparency, stating that the GPF had provided false information to the family in the midst of their anguish.
