Gov’t facing growing questions on power deal
With less than a month before elections, the government is facing growing questions over a pricey deal it intends to sign with a Dominican Republic company for GPL which does not appear to comply with procurement rules.
Government remained mum yesterday on whether the Procurement Act was complied with when it quashed a winning bid to Method4 Engineering from open tendering in favour of an unsolicited proposal from InterEnergy to overlook the Guyana Power and Light’s (GPL’s) network distribution infrastructure.
Given that this country’s Procurement Act outlines that sole sourcing for consultancy services has to follow strict guidelines, government has yet to explain on what basis it acted.
