Police finally issue release on fatal accident with Russian Federation vehicle
The police force today finally issued a press release on the August 5th accident which led to mortal wounds to Ava Braithwaite after a three-vehicle collision caused by a car assigned to the Russian Embassy here.
Braithwaite passed away on August 16.

Earlier today (Monday, 18th August 2025), Government Pathologist Doctor Nehaul Singh conducted a post-mortem examination with dissection on the body of accident victim, 64-year-old Ava Braithwaite, who died from โmultiple Injuries due to a motor vehicle accidentโ.

Braithwaite was the victim of a fatal accident which occurred at about 22:30 hours on 05th August 2025 on the Ogle public road, East Coast Demerara. The accident involved motor car DPL 9-01, owned by the Embassy of the Russian Federation, and driven by Nikolai Golovinov, a 41-year-old resident of Kitty, Georgetown; minibus #BAF 9628, owned and driven by David Daniels, a 46-year-old resident of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara; and motor car #PJJ 5340, owned and driven by Ava Braithwaite (now deceased).

Enquiries disclosed that the minibus #BAF 9628 was proceeding east along the northern carriageway in the northern driving lane, while motor car #PJJ 5340 was proceeding in the same direction behind the minibus when the Diplomatic Vehicle #DPL 9-01, which was proceeding in the same direction at a fast rate, collided into the rear of motor car #PJJ 5340.ย As a result of the collision, the car spun and collided with a light pole on the median. The diplomatic vehicle #DPL 9-01 further collided with the mini bus on the northern corner of the road before ending up at the Ogle intersection.

Due to the collision, all the vehicles received extensive damage, and a light pole was uprooted from the median. The 64-year-old female driver of motor carย #PJJ 5340 sustained head injuries, and she was picked up in a conscious condition and escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where she was seen, examined and admitted as a patient in the critical bay suffering from head and chest injuries. Her condition at the time was considered serious.

The Russian Diplomatic Vehicle was escorted to Sparendaam Police Station along with the driver, where a breathalyser test was conducted, and zero per cent of alcohol was detected in his breath. The driver was processed and sent away.

On 2025/09/16, at about 12:28 hours, the 64-year-old driver of motor car PJJ 5340, who was still a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, succumbed to her injuries.
