Businessman charged with human trafficking

Alvin Parag, a 49-year-old businessman from Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, and Alberttown, Georgetown, was arrested on 2025-09-19 and charged today with human trafficking.

Parag is accused of committing the offence on a 31-year-old female foreign national  between 2025-03-29 and 2025-06-07 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, a release from the police said.

He appeared today at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Judy Latchman. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. Afterwards, the prosecutor strenuously objected to bail, and this was refused. Subsequently, the accused was remanded to prison.

The matter was postponed to 6th October 2025 for statements and disclosure.
