Efforts ongoing to advance land regularisation in ‘Tract K’, Anna Catherina – INews Guyana

 

Efforts to advance land regularisation in ‘Tract K’, Anna Catherina, Region Three took focus on Wednesday as Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, and Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Vickash Ramkisoon met with residents.

They were joined by the Director of Community Development at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Mr. Gladwin Charles, and a technical team.

The engagement formed part of Operation Clear-up, a national initiative previously announced by H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, to address longstanding land regularisation issues. The programme aims to ensure that residents in eligible areas receive their ownership documents, giving them security of tenure. Minister Croal assured that the process will be handled in a structured and transparent manner.

Tract K began in 1977 as the Sea View Housing Co-operative. While many of the original occupiers have already received titles, CH&PA is advancing the regularisation of outstanding lands in three lots identified as public open space under Cadastral Plan #18007. In the case of Lot 68, the land has been subdivided into eleven lots, and the allocations and payments have commenced.

Lot 69 has nine households, and a block and occupation survey was completed. However, some of the households on this lot are straddling the Sea Defence Reserve. Surveys of Lot 70 also revealed that the two households occupying the land are straddling the reserve. CH&PA engaged the Sea and River Defence Board on this matter, and the board is expected to provide its response on Friday. That response will guide the Ministry’s next course of action.

Moroever, there are 43 households occupying the reserve, which is a zero-tolerance zone. House lot applications have been distributed to these 43 households, of which, 19 persons have completed the applications.

Minister Croal stressed the importance of preserving the Sea Defence Reserve, which serves a vital role in protecting communities and national infrastructure from flooding and erosion. He explained that while the government is committed to assisting residents and relocation may be necessary to safeguard both the families involved and the wider population.

Minister Ramkisoon urged residents to fully cooperate with the regularisation process, as it can only be successful if all households work closely with CH&PA.

The CH&PA team is expected to return to the community tomorrow for futher engagement.
