Guyana joins with IICA to celebrate 83rd anniversary – INews Guyana

Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, today met with IICA’s Country Representative in Guyana, Mr. Wilmot Garnet, as part of global celebrations for the organisation’s 83rd anniversary.

Over the years, IICA has worked closely with the Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen Guyana’s agriculture sector by offering technical support in a number of areas.

In 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture launched the GRDB-IICA-17, a Zinc-enriched bio-fortified rice variety, the first of its kind in the Region.

The ministry is also working with IICA to transform the Guyana School of Agriculture into a Regional Center of Excellence that will allow people from across the region to study with the best technology on the best platform, equipped with a situational room and a state-of-the-art data analytics platform to support regional food security and food production.

In its 83 years of history, the IICA has built a true network of experts and ambassadors of goodwill who share a conviction. Through strategic partnerships and shared knowledge, the Institute accompanies American countries in transforming their food systems, with equity, technical cooperation, and innovation.
