SOMA Hotel & Restaurant added to Guyana’s hospitality sector – INews Guyana

The SOMA Hotel & Restaurant

The SOMA Hotel & Restaurant at Houston, Greater Georgetown was officially commissioned on Saturday and represents a major private investment in Guyana’s growing service and hospitality sector — strategically positioned within one of the country’s most important operations and maritime logistics hubs supporting offshore oil and gas activities.

In his address, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the TOTALTEC Group of Companies stated that SOMA was born from a vision to create a space that serves the nation’s industrial heartbeat, while also showcasing the warmth and sophistication of Guyanese hospitality, including the SOMA signature Berbice chair.

The name SOMA, derived from Mangal’s daughter’s first and last names, reflects the personal and family values that inspired the project — legacy, continuity, and contribution to Guyana’s development.

This first phase of SOMA will create 60 to 100 direct and indirect jobs for Guyanese men and women, across hotel operations, food and beverage services, and maintenance.

The project also supports a network of local suppliers and service providers, aligning with Guyana’s local content goals and national workforce development priorities.

As the project scales, TOTALTEC plans to expand SOMA across other key regions of development in Guyana — offering affordable, high-quality accommodation and dining experiences that support business travelers, professionals, and industrial clients throughout the country.

President Ali during his address commended the initiative, emphasizing that investments like SOMA reflect the confidence of the private sector in Guyana’s rapid economic transformation and the government’s vision for sustainable, inclusive growth.

The SOMA Hotel & Restaurant will serve both corporate and leisure guests, featuring modern rooms, a signature restaurant and lounge, conference facilities, and premium service standards designed to meet the needs of Guyana’s dynamic business community.
