President Irfaan Ali yesterday underscored that Guyana remains a zone of peace and holds no ill will towards Venezuela, but it will not accept bullying and aggression over its sovereignty or attempts to disrupt peace in the region, and therefore this country firmly supports international partners in the fight against transnational crimes.

While not naming the United States, which has increased its military presence in the region and has been killing people in the name of war against transnational crimes through strikes on vessels that Washington claimed to be drug laden, President Ali said that Guyana remains vigilant.

“Yes. Guyana supports the aspiration of keeping Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, but equally, also, we support every action and embrace every partnership to cripple transnational crime; the illicit doctrine and any form of destabilization that threatens the security of Guyana and this region,” the Commander – in – Chief of the Armed Forces said yesterday in his address at the commissioning ceremony for new officers of the Guyana Defence Force.
