Justice Cummings taking early retirement

A day after an embarrassing standoff over her return from leave, former acting Chancellor of the Judiciary, Justice Yonette Cummings is to proceed into early retirement which means that Justice Roxane George will continue in the position of acting Chancellor and Justice Navindra Singh as acting Chief Justice.
Justice Cummings issued no statement about her decision which was announced yesterday by President Irfaan Ali in a broadcast on his Facebook page.
“Today, Madame Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards CCH, OR requested my approval to proceed on pre-retirement leave with effect from Monday, October 27, 2025 and on early retirement. After due consideration, I acceded to this request,” the President said in a statement.
