Ministry sought approval to pay Jamaican lawyers in Mohameds extradition case

-though they are representing US gov’t

Team Mohamed yesterday released a Ministry of Home Affairs document for the payment of US$62,558.78 to a Jamaican attorney who has entered an appearance before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to lead the extradition proceedings against businessmen Azruddin Mohamed and his father Nazar Mohamed.

The November 3rd document however raises questions as it says that the Jamaican team led by Terrence F Williams KC was enlisted to represent the Guyana Police Force (GPF). This document would however be at odds with statements as late as yesterday that the Jamai-can team is representing the Government of the United States in its extradition request and not the Guyana Government or the police force. If the Jamaican team is repre-senting the US government them it should be paid by Washington and not via the Ministry of Home Affairs.
