GDF in exercise with US Navy

 The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard successfully completed a Passing Exercise (PASSEX) with the United States Navy today within Guyana’s territorial waters, further strengthening the growing regional partnership between the two nations, the GDF said.

The engagement involved the GDFS Shahoud and the USS Mahan and was conducted to bolster  coordination between the two forces.

“The exercise enhanced interoperability, communication, and tactical readiness, improving the GDF Coast Guard’s ability to operate alongside partner nations during future security, tactical, and contingency operations. The successful completion of this PASSEX also reaffirmed the strong and growing security cooperation between Guyana and the United States.

“The GDF remains committed to building professional capacity, deepening international partnerships, and safeguarding Guyana’s maritime domain”, the GDF said in a release.

The exercise comes at a particularly delicate time with the US Navy build-up in the Caribbean Sea and its destroying of suspected drug-running boats with the loss of over 80 lives. The US action has attracted international condemnation.
