NDIA desilting Commerce St outfall channel – President
The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has begun desilting the Commerce Street outfall channel in Georgetown, President Irfaan Ali said today.
In a brief statement on his Facebook page, Ali said that dredging will soon also be carried out on the outfall channels at Cowan, Church, Princes and Sussex streets, as well as in La Penitence, South Ruimveldt, North Ruimveldt and Rome.
His statement comes amid concerns that a heavy downpour on Friday created flash flooding in the city and inconvenience and damage to residents and businesses despite heavy investments in drainage and assurances from the NDIA.
