Back Circle, Gold is Money sent packing from President’s Cup Futsal
It was a December to remember as traditional powerhouses Back Circle and Gold is Money were booted from the President’s Cup Futsal Championship on Christmas night.
Staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, Stabroek Ballers overcame a one-goal deficit to defeat Back Circle 3-1 in extra time of the night’s final game.
Back Circle secured the initial lead in the form of Ravin Naughton, who scored in the fifth minute. It was the only conversion of the first half.
Stabroek Ballers eventually restored parity to proceedings in the 18th minute as Shamar Welch scored. The contest eventually entered the extra-time interval as a winner was unable to be found in normal time.
Stabroek Ballers then secured the lead in the form of Welch, who found the back of the net in the 35th minute. The win was then sealed one minute later by Ezekiel Frank David.
Earlier in the evening, Gold is Money incurred the same fate as they lost 3-2. Simon Emanuel engineered the unexpected result with a first-half brace. He opened the scoring in the second minute from the penalty spot before doubling the lead minutes later.
Kingston then secured a 3-0 advantage as Deandre Linton found the back of the net. Gold is Money eventually reduced the deficit in the 10th minute as Jamal Pedro found the back of the net.
The score remained unchanged entering the halftime period. The West Ruimveldt unit recorded another consolation goal in the 30th minute via Randolph Wagner.
Meanwhile, defending champion Road Warriors secured their berth to the quarterfinal round following an 8-0 win over Festival City. Matheus Henrique tallied six conversions in the second, eighth, ninth, 21st, 22nd, and 24th minutes, while Matheus De Souza and Wesley Ferreira scored in the 23rd and 29th, respectively.
Also, Bomb Squad demolished Silver Bullets 3-1. William Burgess tallied a brace in the 10th and 24th minutes, while Reshawn Ritch netted in the 18th. On target in the loss was Damion Williams in the 20th minute.
The event continues today at the same venue with the quarterfinal section.
