Government Service Centre to open in Kamarang within four weeks – Pres Ali
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has announced that a government service centre will be established in Kamarang, Region Seven, within the next four weeks, bringing a range of essential public services closer to residents of the Upper Mazaruni district.
The announcement was made during a community engagement in Kamarang on Sunday, where the head of state outlined a series of measures to improve access to government services and reduce the cost of doing business in hinterland communities.
President Ali said the new centre was developed in response to concerns raised by residents and regional officials about the challenges and expenses associated with travelling to Bartica or Georgetown to access basic government services.
“One of the challenges that you have raised with us was the need for a Government Service Centre near Kamarang, a service centre that can reduce the cost for residents doing business in key government institutions,” the president stated.
The facility will provide a range of services under one roof, including the issuance of digital identification cards, immigration and passport services, and General Register Office (GRO) transactions such as birth and death certificate registration and processing.

The government is also working with the banking sector to facilitate banking services at the centre, enabling residents to open and manage bank accounts without having to travel long distances.
“These are all the essential services that in four weeks you will get right here at Kamarang,” President Ali told residents.
The president explained that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader agenda to improve service delivery in hinterland and riverine communities while reducing the financial burden placed on residents.
He noted that the centre will serve communities across the Upper Mazaruni area and will be coordinated by regional representative Tamika Boatswain.
Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally and his ministry will oversee the establishment of the facility.
The announcement formed part of a wider package of interventions unveiled during the outreach, including investments in food security, transportation, healthcare and public infrastructure.
President Ali reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches every community and that public services are made more accessible to citizens, regardless of location.
“We must be able to deliver to people whatever we promise them we will do,” he said.
