Gov’t to support furniture manufacturing venture in River’s View
The government is prepared to work with residents of River’s View Village in Region Seven to establish a community-based furniture manufacturing enterprise, creating employment opportunities and adding value to the village’s natural resources.
During a meeting with residents on Monday, Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, said River’s View is well-positioned to benefit from such an initiative because of its access to timber resources and the growing demand for locally manufactured furniture throughout Guyana.
The proposal forms part of the government’s efforts to encourage value-added production rather than simply exporting raw materials.
“We are willing to work with the community by establishing a furniture shop right here. The village already has its own wood resources, and this can create employment and business opportunities for residents,” he said.
Minister Bharrat encouraged residents to take advantage of government programmes designed to assist entrepreneurs and community groups, including access to financing through the Small Business Bureau and other development initiatives.
He noted that community-led enterprises have the potential to generate sustainable income, particularly in hinterland communities where natural resources can be responsibly utilised to support economic growth.
