Teacher injured as strong winds damage Rivers Town Primary School – INews Guyana
See full statement from the Ministry of Education:
The Ministry of Education has taken note of the structural damage caused to several school buildings as a result of the heavy rain and strong winds experienced in certain parts of the country.
This is particularly evident in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), where extensive damage has been reported at the Anna Regina Multilateral School and Rivers Town Primary School.
The Ministry is also deeply concerned to have received reports of an injury sustained by a teacher at Rivers Town Primary, who is currently receiving medical attention. Our thoughts are with the teacher for a swift recovery.
We remain in close contact with the regional administration as we begin to mobilise further assistance. Meanwhile, extensive countrywide assessments are currently being conducted.
Once these immediate evaluations are complete, the Ministry of Education will work alongside the relevant Regional Democratic Councils and Municipalities to ensure that all structural damage is remedied as a matter of urgency.
We urge all citizens to prioritise their safety and stay indoors in areas where these adverse weather conditions persist.
