-during Paris engagements
Guyana’s candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, continued her international campaign in Paris, France, on Wednesday, where she outlined her vision for a more agile, efficient and responsive United Nations during her engagements with the French officials.
Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett met with France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, to formally present her candidacy for the UN’s top post.
During the meeting, the two exchanged views on multilateralism and ongoing UN reforms.
The ambassador shared her vision for a United Nations that is better equipped to respond to global challenges while remaining effective, efficient and fit for purpose.
She also engaged young leaders, diplomats, journalists, and members of civil society at La Maison de l’Amérique latine during a forum hosted by the Association Française pour les Nations unies (AFNU) and La Maison de l’Amérique latine.
The engagement allowed Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett to discuss her vision for the future of the United Nations while hearing perspectives from students and practitioners committed to advancing multilateralism and defending human rights.

She expressed gratitude to AFNU Secretary General Ambassador Pierre Guignard, President of La Maison de l’Amérique latine Ambassador Jean-Marc Laforêt, and all participants for their contributions to the discussions.
Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett said she was inspired by the ideas and commitment demonstrated by those working to strengthen multilateralism and uphold the principles and purposes of the United Nations.
The engagements are a part of Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett’s efforts to build international support for her candidacy as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.
