Works advancing on Diamond/Grove multipurpose centre – INews Guyana
Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn, conducted a site visit to the Diamond/Grove Multipurpose Centre on Thursday. The centre is being developed by the Ministry of Housing.
The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Directors of Community Development, Ms. Donell Bess-Bascom and Mr. Ravin Singh, along with other technical staff.
The Centre is being constructed within the same compound as the Diamond/Grove Recreational Park, which was commissioned by First Lady, Her Excellency Arya Ali, last month. The park is expected to significantly enhance the physical, mental and social well-being of more than 40,000 residents in the Grove/Diamond community.
Minister Benn said the Diamond/Grove Multipurpose Centre will complement the recreational park by creating additional opportunities for skills training and community engagement. She noted that a management committee will be established to oversee the Centre’s operations once construction is completed.
She added that the project forms part of the Government’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive and accessible spaces for children, families and the elderly. The development will also include parking facilities to better accommodate users.
Project Engineer Kelvin Gurucharran reported that construction is progressing well, with the project approximately 40 percent complete. He said foundation works have been completed, while sand filling and curb works are ongoing. Preparations are also underway for the installation of the steel structure, with the project remaining on schedule for completion by November.
Civil Engineer Jai Takchandran of Superior Builders and Engineering Inc. said his team is preparing to begin installation of the steel structure in the coming weeks.
Engineering Technician and Architect for the project, Desson Bess, explained that the Diamond/Grove Multipurpose Centre will measure approximately 70 by 100 feet and feature an open-concept design with washroom facilities.
