Update: 67 people, including 15 children rescued from MV Barima
The search and rescue operation following the capsizing of the MV Barima has made significant progress, with 67 people, including 15 children, rescued as recovery teams advanced their search.
During a press briefing early Sunday morning, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips assured the public that the operation will continue until every effort has been exhausted, while government agencies remain fully mobilised to support survivors and their families.
Medical teams continue to receive rescued passengers, and information centres established at the Umana Yana in Georgetown, Port Kaituma and Kumaka/Mabaruma remain operational to provide verified updates to relatives as authorities continue to account for everyone aboard the vessel.
