President Ali meets MV Barima survivors, grieving families as search continues
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali travelled to Region One in Port Kaituma early Monday morning to meet with survivors and families affected by the MV Barima tragedy, as search and rescue efforts continue for those still missing.
President Ali spent time with grieving relatives, listening to their concerns and offering comfort during what has become one of the country’s most heartbreaking maritime incidents.
He also met with survivors, assuring them that the government remains focused on supporting those affected and assisting emergency response efforts.
Since the incident occurred on Saturday, government officials have maintained a constant presence in the region, working alongside emergency responders and providing support to families awaiting news of their loved ones.
Search and rescue operation remain active, with teams continuing to comb the area in an effort to account for every person who was aboard the vessel.
The government is working in close coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard, the Guyana Police Force and other response agencies leading the operation.
At the same time, investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are progressing, with authorities expected to provide further updates as information is confirmed.
The head of state assured families that every available resource will continue to be deployed as the search continues and efforts remain centred on bringing answers to those affected.
