GAWU presents bursary awards to members’ children – INews Guyana

The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) proudly recognised the achievements of its members’ children who were successful at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) at a special presentation ceremony held at GAWU’s Headquarters.

The Union awarded bursaries to twenty (20) students drawn from various branches where GAWU is recognised. These bursaries are aimed at assisting students as they embark on the new and exciting chapter of secondary school.

In addition to the Union’s awards, the GAWU Credit Union presented cash awards to selected recipients, further underscoring the broad support network available to GAWU families.

In delivering remarks to the gathering, GAWU’s President, Cde Seepaul Narine, extended warm congratulations to the students on their commendable achievements. He noted that the bursary program was one of the many benefits GAWU provides to its members, and emphasized that the Union’s gains are not confined to the bargaining table, but also extend to initiatives that support the holistic well-being of members and their families.

President Narine also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the parents, who worked hand in hand with their children to prepare them for the examinations, and congratulated them on their invaluable support. He told the awardees that they have entered a new chapter in their academic lives and urged them to remain diligent and committed to their studies. He shared that secondary school will be different, but hard work, dedication, and perseverance are important qualities to embrace along the journey.

Adding to the sentiments, GAWU’s General Secretary, Cde Porandatt Narine, congratulated both the students and their parents and reminded the young awardees that secondary school will bring new challenges and opportunities for success. He encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined, and hardworking. The General Secretary further observed that education is evolving, with technology now playing an increasingly important role, and urged students to embrace these changes as part of their learning journey.

GAWU’s Vice President, Cde Julius Nurse, also joined in offering congratulations and words of encouragement to the awardees. He shared that education is critical in today’s world and commended the students for their hard work and determination in achieving success at the NGSA. He reminded the young scholars to continue striving for excellence as they take this important step in their academic lives.

Following the remarks, the students were presented with their awards, which included cash, a trophy, and a calculator to assist them in their new school environment. Notably, several students received double awards, as their parents are also members of the GAWU Credit Union, which issued additional cash awards to selected recipients.

The Union is pleased to celebrate the accomplishments of its members’ children and strongly emphasises the value of education in building a brighter future. GAWU remains committed to supporting the academic and personal development of the next generation, recognising that today’s students’ successes will contribute to our country’s continued progress.
