Passport applications to go fully online from October 1
Passport applications will move to an online, appointment-based system starting October 1, with walk-in appointments no longer being accepted at passport offices.
Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Senior Superintendent Stephen Telford highlighted that “all passport applicants will be required to make an online appointment before visiting a passport office.”
The new system will allow applicants to select their passport office location and date and time that is convenient for them.
The deputy commissioner urged citizens to be cautious when accessing online platforms, warning that fake websites exist and may be used to mislead applicants.
The official platform is pp.gpf.gov.gy. This platform encourages citizens to use the correct website, complete their application, and secure an appointment before visiting an office.
The new appointment-based system is expected to provide a more organized process for passport applicants while giving citizens greater flexibility in choosing when and where they access the service.
Uplifting passports will now be easier with the reduction of three working days, and persons who pay for the expedited service can receive their passport within 24 hours.
Passport offices have now introduced an at-home service to cater to the elderly and people who are differently abled.
