Road blocked, truck torched as Police attempt to search Vigilance house for missing Surinamese men – INews Guyana

A truck belonging to a road construction crew was set on fire on Tuesday afternoon at Vigilance Public Road, East Coast Demerara as a group of persons attempted to prevent Police from executing a search warrant at a home linked to United States-sanctioned Mark “Demon” Cromwell.

Reports are that the Police went to the area to search the property as part of investigations into the disappearance of two Surinamese men, 28-year-old Van Dalen Siegiëllo Lorenzo and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo.

Persons in the area set debris alight on the roadway to prevent the ranks from carrying out the operation.

Police are yet to issue any official statement on the incident.

On September 20, Police had issued an appeal for information on the whereabouts of Lorenzo and Danillo, who have been missing since late August.

According to the Guyana Police Force, both men left their respective residences on August 28 in a white Toyota Vitz and were reportedly heading towards Nickerie, Suriname. They were last seen on August 29 after reportedly exiting the vehicle at Clarasluis (Clara Sluice), Nickerie.

Police said searches had been conducted and several persons questioned, but those efforts had not produced information on the men’s whereabouts.

Reports emerging on Tuesday indicate that investigators are now examining a vehicle registered to a close relative of Cromwell. The two missing men were reportedly last seen entering that vehicle.

Cromwell, a former Guyana Police Force officer, was sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in June 2025.

According to the US Treasury, Cromwell was designated along with five other individuals in connection with alleged international cocaine trafficking activities. Treasury described him as a former GPF officer and an associate of Guyanese national Paul Daby Jr.

The US sanctions were imposed following an investigation involving several US law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations, US Customs and Border Protection and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
