A post-mortem examination conducted on six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran, whose decomposed and headless body was recovered from the Waterloo Main Canal, West Coast Berbice, has proven inconclusive, while police are continuing their search for the child’s missing head and portions of his limbs.

Region Five Commander Senior Superintendent Lonsdale Whithrite confirmed on Wednesday that the examination was inconclusive, as investigators continued gathering evidence in connection with the child’s suspected murder.

Orlando’s body was discovered on Tuesday, five days after he was reported missing from Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), on Thursday, October 15.

Police had previously disclosed that the recovered body was missing its head, along with portions of the left hand and right foot.

Whithrite said ranks were continuing efforts to locate the missing remains as the investigation progressed.

Meanwhile, the child’s 45-year-old father, who has been identified as the main suspect, and another man, reportedly a pujari, remain in police custody.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed what role, if any, the second man is suspected of playing in Orlando’s death.

The Guyana Police Force has also confirmed the seizure of six cutlasses and other items during a search of the Bath Settlement residence where Orlando lived with his father and two siblings.

According to police, the search was conducted on Tuesday, and the recovered items were lodged as exhibits pending further investigations.

Police have not disclosed whether any of the seized cutlasses have been linked to the child’s injuries.

Investigators also recovered several items of evidential value during further enquiries at the Waterloo Main Canal, where Orlando’s body was discovered.

In an earlier statement, police indicated that preliminary investigations suggested the child had been taken to the canal, where he was allegedly chopped in the neck with a cutlass.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 15, the same day Orlando was reported missing.

Meanwhile, the main suspect’s mother, Dhankumarie Gowkarran, 65, has claimed that police informed her that her son indicated he had killed Orlando after a religious spiritual leader allegedly told him that the six-year-old was not his biological child.

Orlando was a pupil of Bath Primary School, where teachers described him as a very quiet child who regularly attended classes.

His absence from school on the day before he was reported missing was unusual and had raised concern for his class teacher.

The six-year-old had also demonstrated his sporting ability during the school’s annual athletics championship last month, participating in four events and winning three.

Among his victories were the boys’ under-eight 80-metre and 160-metre races.
