Gov’t invites bids for massive sea, river defence works

The government has invited bids for massive sea and river defence works including for one Mahaica project where the engineer’s estimate is $476m.

According to an advertisement in today’s Sunday Stabroek, 42 lots are to be awarded including for rip rap sea defence between Essex and Concord, Mahaica where the engineer’s estimate is 476.6m.

It is unclear why these projects were not initiated earlier. The closing date for the submission of bids to the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board is February 5th, 2025.

Among the other major projects is sea defence work at Fairfield, Mahaicony which has been a problematic area. Rip rap defence is to be built at Fairfield along with sectional upgrading of sea defence structures between Dantzig, Mahaicony and De Hoop, Mahaica. The engineer’s estimate is $202.2m.

Rip rap sea defence is also to be constructed between Belladrum and Washington, West Coast Berbice. The engineer’s estimate is $249.9m.

Also advertised is rip rap sea defence for La Retraite, West Bank Demerara at $218.7m and Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo at $241.3m.

Rip rap work is also planned for La Jalousie/Blankenburg West Coast Demerara at an engineer’s estimate of $253.8m.

Cane Field, Leguan will also see rip rap work to the tune of $215m and Den Amstel/Fellowship West Coast Demerara at $227.2m.

East Meer Zorg and Maria’s Pleasure, Wakenaam will also see rip rap work at $158.4m and $179.3m respectively.

Work is also planned for the Corentyne including $169.9m at Moleson Creek and $152.4m at Bengal/Joppa.
