Police investigating burglary at new $40M Ministry of Labour building – INews Guyana

Detectives in Police Regional Division #6 are investigating the alleged break and enter and larceny committed at the Ministry of Labour building, situated at Lot 228 Grant Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam, Berbice, during which one desktop computer, a backup battery and one water pump were stolen.

The incident reportedly occurred sometime between 1530 and on April 22, 2025, and 07:30hrs on April 23, 2025.

The two-storey concrete building is secured by wooden doors with external locks and internally secured glass windows.

According to a 52-year-old cleaner who is responsible for opening and securing the building, at about 15:30hrs on April 22, she secured the premises and left. Upon returning at 07:30hrs on April 23, she discovered the western door and a window open. She immediately raised an alarm, and the incident was reported to the police.

Police ranks visited the scene, and the aforementioned items were discovered missing. The area was canvassed for CCTV. One was seen nearby; the footage is being reviewed.

Investigation is ongoing.
