Scores of persons today gathered at Den Amstel on the West Demerara and Melanie Damishana on the East of Coast of Demerara to protest  the death of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge and to show support to her grieving relatives.

Protesters  called for justice for Adrianna, whose lifeless body was found in the pool of the Double Day International Hotel & Bar on Thursday hours after she had disappeared following a visit to the hotel with her relatives.

Her death triggered outrage after the issuing of a press release on Wednesday by the police that she was seen leaving the hotel in a car. The police later recanted that statement even as the relatives remained adamant that the child was in the hotel. They remained at the hotel throughout the night and it was around 10am on April 24th her body was found in the pool, which had been searched before by relatives and others.

The discovery of the body was followed by the torching of the hotel and the home of its owner and hours of protest.

Today, the protesters, like those in other parts of the country, called for justice. A boy at Melanie was seen leading the chant of the protesters on the Melanie Public Road and many of those in attendance held up placards, some with the face of the now dead child.

Over at Dem Amstel persons held a peaceful protest and they raised their voices calling for justice. There are also vigils planned for this evening in other parts of the country all calling for justice for the young child.

Tomorrow the much awaited post-mortem examination is expected to be performed on the child’s body by three international pathologists.
