The matter was reported to the Police, and ranks visited the scene shortly after. According to a 16-year-old female student from Wisroc Housing Scheme in Linden, she and Nazim are involved in a ‘relationship’ and he will normally visit her on weekends.
The student said Nazim visited Linden on Saturday, 14th June 2025. The following day (Sunday 15th June at about 15:30 hrs), she, Nazim and some friends visited the Coomacka Mines Beach (Upper Demerara River) to swim.
She said Nazim started swimming towards the centre of the river, after which she saw him start to sink. She shouted for help, but before anyone responded, Nazim’s body went below the surface of the river and disappeared.
The student further said that with the help of public-spirited persons in the area, they made checks for Nazim’s body along the river area near where the incident occurred, but he was not located.
Investigations are in progress.
