Juretha Fernandes, Sherod Duncan, Dexter Todd, Paul Williams join APNU – INews Guyana
Members of the Alliance For Change (AFC) Juretha Fernandes and Sherod Duncan have signed onto the list of candidates for the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) to contest the upcoming elections.
This is even as the AFC and APNU are yet to decide on whether they will coalesce for the upcoming polls.
A source told this publication that while talks are ongoing between the two former coalition partners, it is highly unlikely the two parties will join forces for the September 1 General and Regional Elections.
A senior AFC official, when contacted, said they were unaware of the resignations of Fernandes and Duncan.
Meanwhile, also joining APNU for the upcoming polls are Attorney Dexter Todd and former Deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Williams.
This publication understands that Fernandes has been tipped to be the prime ministerial candidate for APNU, running alongside Aubrey Norton as the presidential candidate.
APNU is a coalition grouping which comprises of the Peoples National Congress (PNC) as its major stakeholder.
A number of PNC/APNU members have resigned from the party in recent months and have endorsed the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) and President Dr Irfaan Ali for a second term.
The AFC has also lost members who also have endorsed the PPP.
