Police probing double murder at New Star Backdam

The police say they have arrested three suspects as investigations continue into the double murder of Mark Thomas, a 24-year-old and Wendy James, both residents of Barama River, Baramita, North West District in Region One.

The suspects involved in this case have been identified as Kizzian Baird, Junior Richmond, known as ‘Po-Pal’, and Ewart Wilson. The incident occurred on 16th June 2025 at New Star Backdam, NWD.

Between 16th and 19th June 2025, the police team from Regional Police Division #1 executed a thorough search of the New Star Backdam area following the suspects’ flight from their residences after committing the act, the police said.

 All three suspects were successfully apprehended in various hiding spots within the Backdam region. They have undergone video and audio interviews, and witnesses have provided written statements confirming involvement in the acts.

The suspects are currently in custody. A Post-Mortem Examination of the deceased (Mark Thomas and Wendy James) will be conducted on Monday, 23rd June, at Port Kaituma.
