Police say Amelia’s Ward robbery suspect killed in shootout

The police today said that an Amelia’s Ward robbery suspect was killed in a shootout with ranks. Shamar Prince sustained five wounds.

A release from the Police follows:

At about 23:45 hrs on 14th July 2025, acting on information received, Police ranks on mobile patrol duty in Linden went to the home of an armed robbery suspect, Shamar Prince, a 26-year-old unemployed resident of Wall Street Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

Prince is a tenant in the lower flat of a two-storey concrete house facing south and located in a partly fenced yard. This apartment is

occupied by Prince and his girlfriend Whitney Brazilio — a 22-year-old cook.

As the ranks called at the apartment, Whitney Brazilio opened the western door and spoke to the ranks. Shamar Prince, who was in the apartment at the time, opened the back door (north-western side) and discharged his firearm at one of the ranks, who was forced to take cover.

Prince then ran out of the apartment and continued discharging rounds at the ranks. The ranks took cover and returned fire in Shamar Prince’s direction. He fell to the ground at the side of the yard.

The ranks approached Prince, who was lying on his back and clothed in a multi-coloured shirt and black denim pants. One .38  revolver containing three .38 rounds and three .38 spent shells, and one box containing twenty-five (25) .38 rounds of ammunition were found next to Shamar Prince.

One black shoulder bag was strapped around his shoulder containing one National ID card in favour of Shamar Prince, one Blu cellphone, $1,040 cash (Guyana currency), one knife and five (5) grams of whitish rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine.

The ranks placed Prince in the police vehicle and escorted him to Linden Hospital Complex, where he died while receiving treatment.

Five circular wounds were seen on his body:

** One to the left side head

** Three to the left side upper shoulder

** One on the right side chest

The .38 revolver, rounds, spent shells, and other articles found were sealed and lodged to be escorted to the lab to be examined.

The body is at the Linden Hospital Complex Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The Police ranks were at the time investigating a report of Robbery Under Arms committed on Long Xing, a 38-year-old Chinese businessman from Mackenzie Linden, which occurred on Monday (14th July 2025) and other reports of armed robberies where firearms were used, committed on Chinese business establishments.
